Sarker Protick at Noorderlicht 20/20
Protick’s subtle technique belies the strong underpinning of his documentary approach. However, rather than taking us on a literal journey through a traditional narrative, he helps us enter his personal space, using the lightness of his visual touch and the emptiness of his frames. The eyes within his photographs create spaces for us to walk into. Empty corners, or a partially open door, beckon as we tiptoe in. We hear whispers. In these photographs we are as much a confidante as a viewer. Protick represents a new breed of photographers who are stretching the vocabulary of photography.
From 1 September through 13 October, 2013, Noorderlicht is mounting six exhibitions with the works of 74 photographers from alle over the world. This photographic event takes place at a new cultural venue: the Old Sugar Factory, an impressive industrial complex in Groningen.
